Dont Lose Your Head

The other day i was driving on the freeway in my 88 Ford F-250. I was nearly out of gas so i stopped at a gas station, pulled into the diesel pump, and proceded to fill up my truck. Well it wasnt long before an elderly lady got out of her brand new Audi TT and proceded to curse the very ground i walked on for quote "Burning up all of the worlds precious oil in that monster you call a truck! Its idiots like you who are driving up the price of oil and making our problems in the middle east worse!" When she stopped for a moment to take a breath i decided to give her a short lesson on the nature of oil.
It wasn't easy to get her to stop yelling but once i did i decided to fill her in on the nature of forign oil. Contrary to popular belief, not all of the worlds oil is in the middle east, in fact only about 25% of oil exists in saudi arabia. oil exists all over the world, wherever ancient life has kicked the bucket, humans can harvest oil. The next largest oil reserve is in canada and is barely being used right now. The only reason the United States imports oil from middle eastern countries is because that oil is pure, good to go straight to the refiner. The oil in Canada and most everywhere else is mixed in with dirt, sand and other sediments. The main fact is that its cheaper oil in the middle east so according to buisiness common sense that is the oil we want to get to so that we can make more of a profit.
Truthfully the Canadian oil is not that hard or more expensive to filter, its being done everyday. Gasoline that comes out of a pump is mixes of middle eastern oil, canadian oil, texan oil, all of these different kinds of oil and you would never know the difference.
Now onto my next bit. Diesel fuel for a long time was actually much cheaper than straight gas. This is because Diesel fuel is a byproduct of making gasoline. In the trucking community, diesel is sometimes referred to as the bastard child of gasoline. diesel fuel also burns cleaner, can create more power, puts less Carbon monoxide into the air, and a diesel engine is pretty much bullet proof due to the heavy construction to compensate for the massive explosions going on in the engine. It is also a well known fact today that diesels can run on biofuel better known as old frying grease. So in reality, Diesels, under the right circumstance because i will not deny that some diesel trucks are firebreathing, pollution belching fuel suckers, can be an all around better vehicle than a car. My F-250 has all the aftermarket parts on it so that it can get around 35 mpg in the city burning a fuel that is basicly a wasteproduct of gasoline.
When i finished explaining this to the elderly woman, she looked at me like i was satan himself and proclaimed with amazing gusto "Thats not what CNN said!" and marched off to buy a bottle of mineral water.
So the point of all this is, dont listen to the news. The News wants to scare you so that you will buy a bunch of stuff that you dont actually need. I seem to recall a while back an incident in which the News informed america that there was to be a shortage of rice. for weeks there was not a bag of rice to be found on the shelves because people, who probley dont even like rice, were scared by the news into buying rice by the bagfull. Right now I could go into any Grocery store and find many bags of rice just sitting on the shelves. So again dont listen to the news, hell dont even listen to me, do your own research, form your own opinions then by all means come back here and tell me exactly why you think all my ideas are wrong. I am looking forward to it =-)
